The International Society for Heart Research announces the ISHR Distinguished Leader Award.

  1. This is an award of high distinction that is conferred annually to an individual who has made sustained outstanding contributions to accomplishing the mission and advancing the objectives of the ISHR. The selection of the recipient is made solely on the basis of a distinguished and consistent track record of major contributions to the Society, such as leadership roles, activities, and initiatives that have benefited and promoted the ISHR by overcoming problems, developing new programs, and expanding the reach and impact of the Society, at the Section and/or the International levels.

  2. The Award will consist of an award medal and an honorarium of $1,000.

  3. In non-Congress years, the winner will be recognized at the meeting of the Section to which the recipient belongs.

  4. A photograph and biosketch of the winner will be published in Heart News and Views, and will be posted in the ISHR website.

  5. Candidates must be active members (or have applied for membership) of the International Society for Heart Research (membership application forms are available on the ISHR website at www.ishrworld.org or from Exec Sec, Leslie Anderson Lobaugh, llobaugh@nc.rr.com).

  6. The Award carries with it a requirement to attend the meeting at which the award will be presented. Travel expenses will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $1,500 [to include coach class travel and a maximum of 3 nights’ hotel accommodation] when the Award recipient is recognized at his/her own local Section meeting, and up to a maximum of $3,000 when inter-continental travel is required. The registration fee will be waived.

  7. Candidates will be nominated by current Section Presidents and the President of the International ISHR. A nomination letter (maximum two pages, in pdf format) focusing on the candidate’s contributions to accomplishing the mission and advancing the objectives of the ISHR (rather than his/her scientific achievements) must be submitted to the President-Elect and Executive Secretary at the addresses below. The winner will be selected by the International Council.

  8. Although Section Officers are eligible for the award while in office, self-nominations by current Section Presidents or the current President of the International ISHR will not be considered.

  9. Nomination letters should be sent to President-Elect, Thomas Eschenhagen, Dept of Exp Pharm & Tox, Univ Med Ctr Hamburg-Eppendorf, Martinistrasse 52, 20246 Hamburg, GERMANY, Tel: +49 (40) 7410-52180, t.eschenhagen@uke.de and Executive Secretary, Leslie Anderson Lobaugh,  llobaugh@ishrworld.org.

  10. Deadline for receipt of nominations is October 30, 2018. Nominations received after that date will not be considered.
